In the bushes
by the sea shore
there is a rustling
a sound
above the waves
that startles me
a bird I assume
I am startled by its human sound
like a chortle
low and droll
a dirty laugh
close to the ground
bordering on human speech
what is that noise
who is he
that jester?
deep within the tall grass and fennel
and what might he say if he spoke?
